Mission
Your impact: bring our bags' materials to life
At Decathlon, within the BAGS Process, material is at the heart of the user experience.
As a material designer, you play a central role that bridges market trends, the specific needs of sports, and technical solutions for our entire range of luggage (bags and luggage). Your mission is to define, develop, and guarantee the aesthetics, performance, durability, and accessibility of our products by creating an inspiring collection of flexible materials.
You are a true creative capable of inspiring teams and transforming emotional material concepts into concrete solutions.
Key responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the BAGS Design lab director and based at the BAGS industrial process (close to technical experts and the workshop), you will work closely with the offering, design, and component development teams, as well as with product designers across different sports.
1. Trend monitoring & strategic vision
- Identify global trends (trade shows, benchmarks, culture, sport) and anticipate developments in the luggage market.
- Develop the seasonal material specifications (woven, mesh, multilayer) by integrating aesthetics, industrial context, technical needs, price, and sensory impact.
2. Collection creation & development
- Create and formalize the component collection (moodboards, references, patterns, physical and digital samples).
- Organizes and manages sourcing with our network of international suppliers in close collaboration with textile engineers.
- Co-develop components by defining new textile aspects and structures through precise technical files.
- Regularly enrich our inspiring material library by exploring new technical materials to improve functionality and environmental impact.
3. Technical expertise & influence
- Working in tandem with the engineers, guarantee technical expertise and industrial feasibility thanks to your deep knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate closely with teams for seamless material and color integration from the ideation phases.
- Present and convince stakeholders of the new collection and contribute to showcasing materials on the showroom and through creative prototypes made with the prototypists.
Profile
The profile we are looking for:
- Education: Textile material designer (Master's Degree, BAC +5).
- Experience: You have at least 4 years of successful experience in textile material design.
- Technical Expertise: You have excellent knowledge of manufacturing processes (Woven/chain & trams, mesh, and ideally multilayer).
- Key Skills:
- You have a strong aesthetic sensibility (aspects, finishes, color/material associations) and a focus on detail and excellence.
- You are creative, curious, and have a talent for identifying trends.
- You possess analytical and synthesis skills, are proactive in proposing solutions, and love working in a team.
- You are highly organized and autonomous, and know how to mobilize teams (functional leadership) around a project.
- Tools: You master the Adobe Creative Suite (2D). Proficiency in 3D and/or AI tools is a plus.
- Language: Fluent English (written and spoken).
- Mobility: Travel in France and abroad is required.
